What is a Strategic Plan?

A Strategic Plan is our district's guiding document that outlines our goals and priorities for the next five years. It uses input from stakeholders like you and performance data to inform the creation of broad objectives, which are then linked to specific outcomes and success indicators. This plan helps focus and inform the work of the Board of Education and our staff, ultimately leading to better results for our students.

The process begins by collecting ideas about who we are as an organization and what kind of learning community we aspire to be. While this phase isn't about specific resources, services, or staffing, the ideas generated will influence future decisions in these areas.

    Why Your Input Matters?

Your perspectives are essential in helping us understand what's working well and where we can improve. By sharing your thoughts, you contribute to a Strategic Plan that reflects the needs and aspirations of our entire community.

Our Commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Truth and Reconciliation

At the heart of our mission is a steadfast commitment to inclusion, diversity, and equity. We believe that every student has the right to an education that respects and celebrates their unique identity and background. We are also deeply committed to the principles of Truth and Reconciliation, recognizing the importance of acknowledging and integrating Indigenous Ways of Knowing into our education system.

These commitments are not just words—they are fundamental to how we operate as a district and will continue to be foundational to our Strategic Plan.

Aligning with the BC Ministry of Education and Child Care's Vision for Student Success

We’re also accountable for aligning our Strategic Plan with the BC Ministry of Education and Child Care's Vision for Student Success. According to the Statement of Education Policy Order:

". . . the purpose of the British Columbia school system is to enable learners to develop their individual potential and to acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to contribute to a healthy society and a prosperous and sustainable economy."

To achieve this purpose, we have a collective mandate to develop the “educated citizen,” which is defined as having:

    • Intellectual Developmentto develop the ability of students to analyze critically, reason and think independently, and acquire basic learning skills and bodies of knowledge; to develop in students a lifelong appreciation of learning, a curiosity about the world around them, and a capacity for creative thought and expression.

    • Human and Social Developmenttdevelop in students a sense of self-worth and personal initiative; to develop an appreciation of the fine arts and an understanding of cultural heritage; to develop an understanding of the importance of physical health and well-being; to develop a sense of social responsibility, acceptance and respect for the ideas and beliefs of others.

    • Career Developmentto prepare students to attain their career and occupational objectives; to assist in the development of effective work habits and the flexibility to deal with change in the workplace.
